INTERVIEW WITH YORUBA ACTRESS BIMBO OSHIN
Bimbo Oshin-Ola Ibironke needs no introduction in the movie industry in Nigeria at a point in her career, she was off the stage and during that period there were conflicting stories about her professional career, the top actress is now back in the industry and better, doing what she knows how to do best, in a recent chat with a local celebrity magazine, City people, she talked about her life career and others.
AT WHAT STAGE ARE YOU NOWIN YOUR CAREER? WHAT'S YOUR ASSESSMENT OF YOUR MOVIE CAREER SO FAR?
I started acted in 1996. I just had a passion for it but I didn't know I was going to get this far. I give God the glory, So far so good.
WHAT MADE YOU EMBRACE ACTING?
At home, when I was younger, my brother and I used to get a tape recorder and does drama sketch. We used to do that in the house. From that the passion for acting just started. I was in school one day when a friend of mine who was in LASU came to my room and said she met Araosan and he did audition and said I do want to go into it. I was like Whoa! It's not a bad idea. Out of curiosity, I followed her, we did the audition and from there I stated going for rehearsals just to brush up.
WHAT MOVIE BROUGHT YOU INTO LIMELIGHT?
Akobi in 1997/1998. It was after this that I started falling in love with the profession. After Akobi other people called me for jobs and decided to start off big time. I realized it won't be a bad idea to act.
WHY ACT IN YORUBA MOVIES ALONE?
Because that was how I started. My friend took me to Araosan and I started from there but along the line I did some soap operas with Tunji Bamishingbin, Deji Adenuga, Super Story, I have done 2 or 3 English movies.
BETWEEN ENGLISH AND YORUBA MOVIES, WHICH ONE DO YOU PREFER?
I am compatible with both.
WHAT HAS KEPT YOU GOING IN THE YORUBA MOVIE INDUSTRY, BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW THERE IS NO MONEY IN ACTING?
I give glory to God. Without him I am nothing. I thank my husband too. He has always been there for me. He is my pillar. He tells me what to do and what not to do.
HOW EASY WAS IT GETTING MARRIED IN AN INDUSTRY WHERE MANY ACTRESSES ARE STILL SINGLE?
It is God. It is not by own doing. I know when to draw the line between work and home. I love the institution of marriage a lot. I respect it. It's all about balancing the two roles. I am a working mother.
HOW DID YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH OLA IBIRONKE? TELL US YOUR LOVE STORY. WHAT WAS THE ATRACTION?
He is very intelligent. I love intelligent people. The first time we met, he threw me off my feet. We started from there. He is a perfect gentleman. You know what I mean.
WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO TAKE TO SWEEP A BEAUTIFUL LADY LIKE BIMBO OFF HER FEET?
He is very honest. He is very humble, easy going. He is God fearing.
WAS IT A LETS SEE HOW IT GOES THING OR YOU INSTANTLY DECIDED TO MARRY HIM? HOW DID IT HAPPEN?
Yes we dated for a while, saw the qualities in each other and we decided to get married. We dated for 3 years. I have known him since 2001. We met at Golden Gate on the stairs. I was coming down and he was going up. He stopped to greet. Hi, what's up? And we took it from there.
HOW DOES HE COPE WITH YOUR SCHEDULE?
He quite understands. He knows when I am working and when I am not.
COULD IT BE BECAUSE HE IS INTO THE ENTERTAINMENT BUSINESS?
Maybe. He is into that industry, but I guess it has to do with understanding. He knows the kind of person he is married to. I know the kind of person I am married to. He gives me time to be on location, he does not stress me. He does not stress me. He does not disturb me. He is just a wonderful man, very wonderful man.
AT THE END OF THE DAY, WHO IS BIMBO OSHIN?
I am a very respectful person, easy going, simple, mind my business. I am from a family 8, I am the 7th. My father is late. I love him so much. My mum is alive and kicking. I am from Ondo State. I left Ondo when I was six years old to live in Ife and Lagos. I went to staff school in Ile- Ife fro my elementary school. Then Girls Academy in Lagos, then University of Lagos to study Philosophy. I was in Year II when my friend came to invite me to acting, I would have been a business woman. I don't like this 8am- 5pm work. I was into selling and buying of women stuff.
WHAT ARE THE THINGS YOU WILL ATTRIBUTE THE SUCCESS OF YOUR MARRIAGE TO?
God, my husband. Being a good wife, then my mother-in- law. She is absolutely fantastic.

My Girld Friend Thought she was very smart
Sir T is a young man who just graduated from school. He has been dating Linda for the past five years, They were in the same school. He never tried to know where Linda came from graduates from school. He never called her parents. Linda in the other hand has another boyfriend who is a trader in one of the Nigerian super cities. His name is Emeka. Emeka promised to marry Linda as soon as she graduates from School. He kept his promise and married Linda.
Sir T, the lover boy juts found out that Linda is married to Emeka. He concluded within himself that Linda must thought she is smart by doing that. He believes Linda should have waited for him instead of marrying Emeka who saw her through school expenses.
Likely Scenario stumbled on Sir T’s message on the internet and decided to help him understand what happened.
Here is our Likely scenario for the smart Sir T.
Read his message first
We had been dating right from School and we had smooth relationship for almost 5years until last year that things went soar. She started avoiding me, which I knew but pretended as if I didn’t know. This year May ie May, 2010, she told me she can not continue with the relationship which I took with pleasure and three months after ie August, 2010, she got married to her ex-boyfriend.
1) What do u think happen with the above scenario? Don’t u think she had been seeing her ex-boyfriend while we were still dating?
2) If u were Her ex-boyfriend ( now husband), will u still marry her after leaving u for someone ( in this case me) for 5 years?
3) Why do ladies think they are wiser than guys when actually they are not?
[LINDA AND EMEKA THE TRADER.]
LINDA : Emmy, i am going to miss you so much now that i am going to school.
EMEKA : I know , Just take care of yourself in the school. I heard there are a lot of bad boys there. Just do what they say and you will be fine. We will get married as soon as you graduate. I promise.
LINDA. oK darling. I cant wait to graduate so we can be together forever.
[The following day, Linda goes to the university where she met Sir T, The cult leader.]
Sir T : Linda listen, You must be my girl friend , I am the only one who can protect you here. I am the leader of the AYE boyz in this campus. Its either you agree or you die.
Linda : [After considering the part of advice where Emeka told her to do what they said, agrees to day SIT T] Ok Sir T. I will be your girlfriend.
[They dated for 5 year, Sir T never cared to know anything about Linda, He dont even know where Linda goes during the breaks and Holidays]
[After the final year exams, Linda ran back to Emeka the Trader, and marry him. Sir T just discovered through a friend, and ran to the internet to tell us how stupid Linda is.]
Sir T : Hey guys and girls, My girlfriend thought she is smart. She married another man. blablabla
Sam Milla : You are such a stupid person. Who is smart between you both ? Who got what he/she wante
See MOney At Mezie's Wedding
At Leo Mezie’s Wedding
IF you were not at Leo Mezie’s wedding reception then you missed a lot because I thought I knew Leo but on that day, I realised I did not know him well enough. Leo has arrived, and that is authoritative news. Drinks and Chinese food were flowing like tap water. I sat amazed as Chinese rice on hot hissing wooden plates were flying over my head like no man’s business. Wait o, e be like Leo don hamma, if not no be just film money im take do dat gbedu wey I take my eyes see dat day. A detractor was mentally calculating the cost of the wedding reception and he put it at conservatively N1 million and to think it was just 100 guests that were invited according to the guest list. Leo ma bloda, abeg show me the way bcos wen I grow up, I will like to be like you. Congrats sha.
Essence’s earrings
I was watching singer Essence on TVC last week, as she was being interviewed by Labi in her lunch break programme. Aside the fact that Essence is now as big as a Michelin man, she was spotting a gigantic earring that was giving her some discomfort moving her head. Someone swore she saw sweat beads welling up on her forehead. Why she no go sweat? Dose earring na for giantess not an Essence. Please my dear, cut down on giant earrings, I no wan hear o.
Where was ‘Ramsey Boy’ rushing to?
Where was ‘Ramsey Boy’ rushing to?
AMEBO was late for Nollywood actor Leo Mezie’s wedding reception at the Chinese Restaurant inside National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, so he had to beat his tuke tuke car to do what it’s not used to doing — speeding. At the intersection on Agbonyin Street leading to Adekunle Kuye, a black Toyota sped past on a breakneck speed. The yellow paw paw face of Nollywood star Ramsey Nouah flashed past in a split second. It seemed Ramsey boy was much more in a hurry than your darling AMEBO, but then, I had a problem with his speeding habit. Remember it was the same Ramsey that over sped on his power scooter some couple of years ago that led to a near fatal accident (and the bobo lost some teeth). Now, he is speeding like he is world racing champion Michael Schumacer. Please, if you are close friend, advise him o, tell him to remember the famous warning Nigerian legendary footballer Thunder Balogun’s wife gave him before he took that mythical shot ... remember your left o.

Inside Psquare’s New Garage
Pictured above and below, are three of the four new cars the Okoye brothers (Paul, Peter and Jude) have just added to their already over-crowded garage.
A statement by their spokesperson says the pop twins and their brother-manager Jude, who have just returned from a performance tour of the US, have just taken delivery of a BMW X6, two Range Rover Sport, and a Jaguar.
The automobiles – all brand-new- were acquired from Lagos-based Coscharis Motors.
It’s uncertain if they will add the new cars to their fleet (including a Hummer, Toyota Avalon, Toyota Camry and Toyota Prado) or dispose of the old set.
Meanwhile, the multiple award-winning singers have reportedly moved into their ‘N300million mansion’ on Lola Holloway Street, Omole Estate Phase 1, in Lagos..
