UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS IS NOW RENAMED MOSHOOD ABIOLA UNIVERSITY BY PRESIDENT JONATHAN





News just getting to Amebo International confirm that there is heavy protests in Jibowu, Yaba and its environs by students Moshood Abiola University (MAU) formerly known as University of Lagos (UNILAG) over the name change this morning by President Jonathan.

The President changed the university's name is a nationwide broadcast this morning. The news has now been greeted with protests by the university's students, who kicked against it.

According to reports, hundreds of the university's students have trooped out to protest against the President's decision.

They have taken over Yaba, Jibowu and the adjourning roads to MAU.

Some of MAU students talked to told Amebo international representative that the news came at the time the university community was mourning the loss of its Vice Chancellor.


Another student told our representative that the name change would drop the pride of being called a UNILAG student. "I can't just imagine telling people that I went to MAU and not UNILAG. The new name sounds 'odd'. The President should reverse to the old name," the student fumed.

An ex-student of the school told Amebo INternationalthat the name change is not a welcomed idea.

University of Lagos has always been the pride of many student. Some even go to the school just to brag of being an ex-student of the school.
