The usual Convocation ceremonies in the
University of Lagos took a different dimension this
year in the Department of Mass Communication
as Aladegbaiye Adedapo, a student of the
department graduated with a first class degree
(4.74 CGPA of a 5.00) 36 years after the set of Dr.
Olatunji Dare, a columnist with The Nation and a
lecturer at a school in the United States.
Dapo told AMEBO that before he gained
admission, he has often heard that first class
degrees were meant for the wizards, so he had
settled for a 4.30 (Second class upper) until he
began with a Fist Class CGPA.
“I never nurse the desire to get a first class; in my
first year, I ended up with a First Class CGPA. I
never for ones stepped outside the confines of a
First-Class CGPA till my final year. Instead of my
grades falling like I ’ve heard, they grew.”
Furthermore, Dapo placed his achievement unto
God as a plan for him and a wonderful family
especially her mum who stood by him and pray
for him during and after exams. He also made
mention of some of his friends who have
contributed positively in his life and always advise
him to remain focus and not relent.
Speaking on his future aspiration, Aladegbaiye
said he is looking forward to a challenging future.
“ I wish to be an expert in diverse areas of
communication, especially in advertising, public
relations, business and development. ”
In another development, the Department also
produced three Ph.D students who are Olubunmi
Ajibade, Adepoju Tejumaiye and Nwanne Uwaeru
at this year ’s convocation ceremonies.
