Another one heeds the divine calling. Femi Branch, one of the famous faces in the movie industry is set to climb the pulpit, mind you, not in a movie set but for life. Femi, in an exclusive interview, said he has heard the call to leave the thespian art and woo lost soul for the vineyard of God.

The handsome hunk who was ordained an associate pastor since 1996 in his King’s Chapel’s church since 1996 told E-247 that he had a vision regarding his pastoral calling and directive to sing gospel music. His dilly-dallying attitude, he confessed caused him to to have a rethink>I realized that when certain things started happening like my family began to suffer, I could be on location for three months back to back, and it’s only good that you notice these things when they begin to happen…”

Femi who has not been seen in movies lately explained: “Well, I have had a gradual pullout, especially from the Yoruba industry; I have changed my business line and gotten a new telephone number. Only some close friends and associate have that number and I tell them not to give it out. It’s not as if I’m totally going to stop acting, but it’s going to depend on the scripts and roles unlike before that I used to play any role. My new calling of course has marginalized things. So it’s a gradual pullout.”

When asked if he has had doubt and challenges, considering the fact that his finances would change, he said “Because the acting thing was my sole source of income and for me to stop it like that and now go into a totally new thing, definitely, there will be a period of imbalance, that is it but when you know that this is what you want to do, so you just weather it. God has given me an open book, he has given me an open cheque as far as I’m concerned I‘m beginning to understand life because God knows more than I can ever know what the challenges will be.”

Would he easily cope with his new status and the famous Femi Branch who many would think he’s probably acting?

”Hmmm, it’s really a very big deal for me, let me not lie. At a point in time I was contemplating some things but then I realized that it’s not about you or what you think about me, it’s about God, and I know when most people see me on the pulpit, they may think I’m acting, that’s why when the church

starts, I will only put the name of the church so that when people come, they will see that it’s this guy that is there. I know that God taking me through my acting career is all part of a bigger plan. I know that people will have different opinion, but the bottom line is whether he is a pastor, an actor, a producer, he remains Femi Branch.

Toni Payne still in love with 9ice

Some people are pessimistic about the possibility of a reconciliation between the proverbial lyricist, 9ice and his wife, Toni Payne, but fans and friends are on the other hand optimistic that one day the couple will get over the storm in their marriage. I’m Tired Of Having Kids —2face

Multiple award winner, Tuface Idibia, has said that he is tired of having children, even though he is not married to any of his girlfriends yet.

Speaking at the formal presentation of “New Milo” by Nestle Nigeria Plc at the National Arts Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos, recently, Idibia, who was the guest star, told the audience which comprised students and their mothers in pidgin English that “I no dey give belle again” meaning he does not wish to impregnate any girl any more.

The musician, who has five children from three women, Pero, Sumbo and Ann Macaulay, told those present at the occasion that it is good to learn from experience.

“You will not know what I am feeling now. I wish I was 15 years old like you, then you will know how I am feeling now,” he said.

Tuface, who put up a spectacular performance at the launch of the new Milo, also sang praises of the incumbent governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola and advised political office holders to rule well.

Speaking at the event, the wife of the governor, Abimbola Fashola, enjoined mothers to be closer to their children so as to discover their potential early in life.

CONTROVERSIAL KELLY HANSOME STARTS ANOTHER FEUD; WITH A NIGHT CLUB MANAGEMENT

Kelly never disappoints when it comes to stirring controversy. The young artiste who has taken it on himself to diss some music artistes he termed 'noisemakers', must have gone mad again, not with another rapper this time, but with a night club management after causing fight at a night club he attended in Abuja. This was discovered after the night club owner wrote a petition letter to the commissioner of police in FCT accusing kelly hansome of damages and causing violence in the club. This letter was displayed on punchng. The club owner claimed that kelly hansome who entered the club uninvited was given the chance to perform just a track off his album after appealing with his close friends to perform. Kelly abused this chance, as he went ahead to perform other songs thereby prompting fight in the club. He claimed that they had to turn off the mic after failed attempt by the officials to end mr. Kelly's performance. Kelly was 'dragged' out of the club after insulting an official at the club. Kelly with his boys strived to enter the club to fight the official, in the process damaged the club's property. The owner further said Kelly has however sent threat messages to the club management.

Panic As Gunmen Kill Three UNILAG Students In One Week

As students of the University of Lagos are still recovering from the killing of one of their students that took place last week, another shooting by unknown armed men has taken place around the campus, leaving one student dead.

On Tuesday, February 22, 2011, word circulated that a student had just been buried at Atan Cemetary, close to the campus in Yaba, Lagos. This prompted investigations and soon enough it was discovered that the boy, Ayodeji Sonoiki, a student of the Department of History and Strategic Studies in the Faculty of Arts had been shot and killed by gunmen on Friday, February 18, 2011.

We gathered from his friends who want to remain anonymous that Ayodeji was with his cousins drinking at a local pub called Ben Johnson located in Yaba when armed men stormed the place and fired several shots into the air.

As people fell flat on the ground for safety, a drunken Ayodeji reportedly remained calm and ignored the gunmen. His action angered one of them who thought Ayodeji wasn’t taking them serious. He was shot and killed.

Sources say Sonoiki was spending an extra year in school due to the incompletion of his project and had celebrated his 22 birthday earlier this month. He was the former treasurer of the Historical Society of Nigeria, UNILAG Chapter and was described as ‘an easy going person’.

Etcetera Break Up with record label

Lagos-based record label X3M Music earlier today announced that they will no longer be working with soft-rock artiste, Etcetera

Etcetera whose real names are Pascal Ejikeme till today had been under the record label founded by Steve Babaeko for over three years, releasing two albums – the self titled ‘Etcetera’ and last year’s ‘Yes I Am’.

The soft-rock singer’s peculiar music style has over the years put him in a class of his own. With with X3M Music, his brand rose to high recognition as the label has worked effortlessly to sell his unique style.

With popular songs like ‘This is not a Song’, ‘Michelle’, ‘Biafra’ and the most recent ‘Ring the alarm’, Etcetera carved a niche for himself, wining multiple awards and topping charts with his songs.

A spokesperson for the label says that ‘the point has been made and it’s time to move on’.

‘There are no issues here, as many would want to think. We’re a small, close-knit family and we’ve put all we have into establishing whatever brands we’ve built today. We’re happy with what, together with our friends in the media, and those in corporate Nigeria, we’ve been able to achieve with Etcetera – a genuinely talented musician that deserves far more than any celebration and decoration he’ll ever receive.

‘I Dropped Out Of School For Koko Mansion’ – Rita Isokhen

The name Rita Isoken Igbinedion may not be instantly familiar, but Rita Koko Mansion would definitely ring a bell. If not for anything; at least for all the grammatical bombshells she detonated while the TV reality show was on. Till now, many still have her hilarious scenes on Koko Mansion on their mobile phones – it’s even all over YouTube.



Igbinedion may not have emerged the winner of Koko Mansion but her ‘outstanding’ use of the English Language stole the shine from the winner who has since gone into obscurity.


Rita confesses that her English Language deficiency can be blamed on her bumpy educational background. Interestingly, while preparing to start her University education; she is looking forward to hosting her own TV show this year (EDUCATING WITH RITA).

You became popular through the Koko mansion platform, how did you get on the show?

I got to know about Koko Mansion through a family friend when I just had my hair cut. He told me it was D’banj‘s show; quite similar to the Big Brother Show and he would like me to be involved. I told him I wasn’t interested in stardom and couldn’t even afford to purchase the form that cost N5000. So I went on to tell my best friend who gave me N7000 and said I must participate in the program. I headed straight to GT Bank to purchase the form, filled and returned it. I was later informed that I had been selected for the auditions and was to report to Lagos. I was a little discouraged because I had never been to Lagos or known anything about the City, but I was told my flight had been booked so I just gave it a try. When I got to Lagos, they came to pick me at the airport. I can’t lie to you. I was very happy. I didn’t even know that the other girls were there with me, I thought I was the only one they came to pick. The next day I saw different people when I went for the interview before I was finally selected among the housemates. So I went back home to prepare; but they never got back to me for almost three months. I almost gave up again. I even called them but they never responded. I then made up my mind that if they really wanted me, they would call me. The day I deleted their number from my phone was the day they called me.

Take us through your Family background?
I was born on March 3, 1990. I’m from an average family of eight and we all live in Benin, Edo State. I am the fourth child of six children and the last girl. My family consists of three boys and three girls.

How about your Educational background?
I dropped out of school when I was in SS3 in order to participate in Koko Mansion. At the end of the show, I went back to write my SSCE exams. So hopefully this year I would be admitted into Igbinedion University, Okada to study Political Science.

After Koko Mansion, what have you been doing?
I have been working on my project.

What Project?
It’s going to be a reality TV show tagged ‘EDUCATING WITH RITA‘.

What exactly is it all about?
It’s just a show where Rita would be trying to educate young ones out there. The production would start soon but there is no definite time and date yet because we’re still trying to sort out many things, hopefully this year things should start off. I don’t want to reveal too much about it now.

Did you release any song titled ‘Call the EFCC’ Immediately after Koko Mansion?
No, I didn’t release any song; it was all pranks made by some set of people. I don’t even know how to sing.

Aside the Reality Show, do you have plans for any other aspect of entertainment?
No, not really but for now it’s just the show that is on my mind.

Since you’ll be resuming at the University this year, don’t you think it would clash with the Show?
Those are part of the things we are working on. By the time we’re through, there won’t be any clash and it will surely work out. There will be no distractions.

Even the winner of Koko mansion ‘Bolanle’ did not gain as much popularity as you did, why is this so?
I think it’s because of the way I presented myself out there because I’m from a responsible home. Secondly I think it’s because of all the ‘EFCC under Yahoo Yahoo’ that I said which was recorded as a video and spread all around. Since then people have been curious to know who Rita is.

Many people who watched Koko Mansion noted you for grammatical blunders like ‘Nigeria are not safety enough‘ and ‘EFCC under Yahoo Yahoo’. Was that the best way you could express yourself?
That was not the best way I could express myself. Most times it was due to pressure. That ‘EFCC under yahoo yahoo‘ line that I said was not meant that way. There was a chart drawn on the board which had EFCC written under Yahoo Yahoo, so when one of the instructors asked where I got EFCC from I said ‘EFCC is under yahoo yahoo‘ as shown on the board. People were just screaming without knowing what actually went down. When I even saw the video, I was like this is not me; I never said all that but right now I no longer care.

Did you feel discouraged at any point in time?
No, why would I? I was just expressing myself. Since I know I have a future that lies ahead of me, why would I be discouraged?

Recently, your grammatical blunders were transferred to Twitter with several retweets. Don’t you agree that they may be correct in regarding you as a semi-illiterate?
Well, I agree with what anyone says. Even if they say I’m a complete illiterate, I agree. At the end of the day what matters is who Rita is going to be not what she was. Is she going to be a good mother? Is she going to a good role model to the youths? Is she going to be an ideal woman These are the things that matter the most. As for the tweets, I don’t even own a twitter account; maybe it’s just someone playing pranks. People can say whatever they like. I don’t give a f**k.

What could you attribute all your grammatical blunders to?
I think it’s because I stopped school for a while.

How are your sibling’s educational background compared to yours?
I think they are far better than me because they’re really trying. My younger ones are still in secondary school and my elder ones have all graduated from the University.

The purpose of Koko Mansion was to identify an ‘Ideal Nigerian’ woman. Even though you eventually lost out, do you think you fit that position?
I fit the position then and more so now, I think I still do but I’m still learning. The only problem I had was my education, but as for other aspects I am an ideal woman.

What were the lessons you learnt during your stay in Koko Mansion?
I learnt a whole lot. Before I didn’t know how to comport myself, I didn’t know how to talk to people because I am a shy person but now I can do all these confidently. I also learnt how to dress well; as you can see I’m putting on a white top, a white footwear should never go on it. I’m a much better person now than before.

Was there any scuffle between you and anyone in the house, then?
Yes it was between me and a girl called Isi. She wasn’t even a member of the house; she just came for a visit. I can’t really remember what exactly happened but I know she insulted my parents and referred to me as an illiterate at several instances. I initially kept quiet but when it was becoming continuous I had to reply her, because I would not have anyone insult my parents in my presence. It was after a while I discovered that she was just visiting.

Of all the housemates, which of them do you miss and why?
I don’t actually pray to be like anyone of them; I intend to be better than them. Most of them were pretending to be perfect but they are not who they claim to be. But I can remember that I learnt a lot from Bolanle (winner). She was my very good friend. I just tried to ignore most of them. If they like me, fine, and if they don’t like me, I don’t care either. I prefer to be shot than see you reign insults on my family. Even if I get married now, I can’t even give my husband the right to insult my younger ones not to talk of my parents.

Among those that visited the Koko Mansion, which of them had the greatest impact on you?
I learn a lot from Bukky, the Yoruba actress and Funke Akindele who was just hilarious. They both taught me how to be responsible in the home.

Do you have a boyfriend?
I had a boyfriend then but I no longer have. I’m single and not searching. We broke up few months before the Koko Mansion but since I got back, he’s been begging me that he wants me back. As a lady I’m trying to prove hard to get. I may eventually give him a chance but I haven’t decided.

What does he do?
While we were together he was serving but he just concluded his Masters program. He was my first boyfriend.

Despite your grammatical blunders, if you had the chance of returning to the Koko Mansion, how would you react?
I went there the first time and survived so if I go a second time I would still survive. So, I have no fears.

Confusion Over Duncan Mighty’s Move To Mo’Hits

Stemming from the widespread speculation that Port Harcourt based Nigerian singer Duncan Mighty has been signed to Mo’Hits Records; the label boss Don Jazzy has debunked the claim on the social networking site Twitter.

Despite Don Jazzy’s denial, the talented singer who’s riding on the success of his second studio album ‘LEGACY’ insists that the star studded label has employed him as a sound instructor, sound engineer and producer.

‘Yes I was just signed to Mo’Hits Records as a Sound instructor, Sound engineer and Producer. Not as a recording artiste but not that I can’t do songs with Mo’hits. My major job is studio work’, he tells.

However, the Mo’Hits crew manager, Sunday Are who spoke to us on the phone also played down talks of any concluded deal with the South-South star artiste.

‘He has not been signed to Mo’Hits. He’s about to be signed, but if he says he’s been signed already, whatever ’, Are says.

When the king of South-South as Duncan is fondly addressed was confronted with the fact of Don Jazzy’s denial, he refrained from giving further details, stating he would like to confirm.

‘I’m here with them. Let me confirm that’, he said hurriedly.

Our effort to reach Duncan Mighty afterwards was futile as his phone rang to no answer for several minutes.

Stella Damasus Not Dating Manager’

Square Image, the publicist of versatile Nollywood actress, Stella Damasus, says that Mofe Duncan is her manager and business partner, not her lover as being rumoured recently.

Damasus’ publicist stated that apart from being her manager, Mofe’s 5ive28 Entertainment is a partner of Stella’s SDA Production, and they are both working on the actress’ projects, some of which will start showing on TV next month.

Stella is planning to hit the local and international screens with her television programmes soon. Her Changing Lives will berth on OH TV in the UK, next month, while two Nigerian stations have also got the right to broadcast it.

She has also set up a film training school, Stella Damasus Arts Institute, and will hold an audition for interested applicants later this month.

“Stella has been so busy for sometime now, so she obviously has no time for unnecessary distractions,” the statement reads.

Marketer Battles 2Face Idibia Over N25million R.Kelly Duet Scam

The fangs of battle are bare- and at the other end is popular singer Innocent Idibia widely known as 2Face.

Findings revealed that the man bent on wrestling with him is Bisi Bangbala, the front person of marketing company HAPPY BOYS.

The chord of discord between the two has root in a business relationship built on deceit- and that has naturally gone sour.

According to information made available to us, 2Face had made claim to be in position to make a duet with world acclaimed R&B Singer R.Kelly for a yet to be released album.

Bisi sensing a business opportunity had entered into negotiation with Idibia using his company Happy Boys.

The idea was for the company to buy the album off 2face and use the R.Kelly angle to market it and earn returns on investment made.

Both parties agreed to a twenty five million naira deal ( the figure incorporated part expenses in making the album and 2face’s gain)

Findings revealed when 2face dropped the finish work- there was no R.Kelly duet!

Maintained a source ‘ he did recorded some a chorus or something that questionably featured R.Kelly but the main the thing is, he didn’t do what he portrayed and didn’t come up with a finish product that could help investor to recoup his fund!’

And to compound the marketer’s woe the money he released was declared spent already!

According to a source ‘ by a combination of commission and omission the marketer was forced to accept the album as produced’

Sources divulged that the compromise was reached on the understanding that Idibia would come up with another album to cushion the loss suffered.

The album was titled Unstoppable.

Informants revealed strangely contrary to expectations Idibia released another album on his own tagged Unstoppable 11. The musical work is alleged to parade some of the songs in the controversial album and some new ones.

The initiative resulted in another round of underground battle with Bisi and Happy Boys.

The underground fight was reportedly deadlock until Idibia featured in an advert by telecommunication company Airtel.

The marketer was said to have gotten wind of the money he would be paid ( twenty some thing million naira) and reportedly threatened to act as kill joy for the singer in the deal by intimating the management of the company and general public of his experience.

Alternatively he wants Idibia to refund a yet to be ascertained fee to him to cover his loss.

Popular artiste manager Efe Omoregbe is listed as topping the list of mediators in the unfolding saga.

Further investigations revealed that since the news started making the rounds, marketers have refused to fund albums for artiste with the intention of buying it off them.

Ex-Governor Ayo Fayose Erects Eye-Catching Luxury Apartment In Banana Island

The name of former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayo Fayose has debuted on the list of Nigerians who own properties on Banana Island- the haven exclusively for the well-to-do in the heart of Lagos.

Findings revealed the soon to be completed structure to be blocks of luxury apartment.

Disclosed to be a twin building, it parades all of 12 block of flats.

Sitting on some two plot of land, the all brick wall property is located on close C, off Nasarawa Street on the paradise-like Island.

Work men at the site have less than a month to deliver the project, a source divulged.

Inside sources have informed AMEBO that petite singer/rapper Mo’Cheedah may be on the verge of sealing an endorsement deal with a respectable Hair care product in Nigeria – the deal running into the sum of five million Naira (N5M).

Modupe Oreoluwa better known as Mo’Cheddah who is just 20 years old, in the past year moved up the radar in the speed of light, commanding much respect with her art; grabbing several nominations, awards and amassing massive airplay on radio and TV stations, including MTV Base.

Pasuma In Search Of The Next Fuji Star

In a quest for discovering new talents in Fuji music, popular musician and Fuji star Wasiu Alabi better known as Pasuma has started a new reality TV show titled ‘Ohun’.

Auditions for the show which will take place in June, will be held in four cities; Ikeja, Ibadan, Akure and Ilorin. After auditions, the grand finale will then be held in August.

‘’Ohun’ was initiated by management company AO21 Media in November 2008 but for one reason or the other we could not kick off till now. There are quite a lot of music talent shows but all seem focused on Hip hop, Pop and RNB and no one is paying attention to Fuji music. Fuji music is the most popular indigenous music in Nigeria but what happens when my generation stops singing? There are quite a lot talented young men out there who want to sing Fuji music but since no one is encouraging them, their talent is just wasting away. Over the years I have wondered if someone will ever think of doing a Fuji talent show. Rather than wait, I have taken up the responsibility to contribute my own quota to the growth of Fuji music. I am optimistic ‘Ohun’ will open doors for more Fuji talent shows and the more credible shows like ours the better it is for the industry’, Pasuma expressed.

Cult activities return to Unilag as two students are killed inside school premises

On Monday Feb 14th, Valentine's Day, two students of the University of Lagos were reportedly killed near New Hall. The incident occurred around 10:30 pm at night as students gathered to enjoy the Valentine's Day in front of new hall, at the school's Akoka Campus.

From what students in the school are saying, apparently there was a clash between two rival cult groups, names withheld, over a female student allegedly snatched by the Capone of one the cult groups, which did not go down well with the other group leading to the clash. (No one truly knows if this was the real cause of the killings, but that's the gist flying around in unilag).

A student who witnessed the shooting said besides the two cult members who were shot dead, about four others were also gravely injured.

RIP to the ones who lost their lives...

The school authority has since issued a statement on the matter...

“The attention of the University authorities has been drawn to the incident which occurred in one of the Halls of Resident in the late hours of Monday, February 14, 2011, where two persons were reportedly injured in a fracas.
The University Management has commenced investigation into the unusual incident, in particular at a time when preparations for the First Semester Examinations which will commence on February 21, 2011, are in top gear.
Security has been intensified to ensure safety of life and properties on campus. Law Enforcement agents have been involved to assist the University in this respect.

Staff and students are hereby advised to go about their programmes without any fear of molestation. Management urges members of the University Community to be vigilant and those with useful information to make them available on the helpline

King Sunny Ade Becomes A "Born Again" Christian

Popular Juju musician, King Sunny Ade, recently gave his life to Jesus Christ during a church service at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Yaba, Lagos. Sunny Ade dedicated himself to Christ during an altar call by the RCCG’s General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Juju music maestro was among 30 worshippers at the service who rushed to the altar to be prayed for by the general overseer. When Adeboye asked that the persons who answered the call should confess their sins, Sunny Ade was the first to kneel down.

During the thanksgiving, Sunny Ade expressed gratitude to God for his mercies and for making him see the day.
“I have nothing to say than to come and thank my God for what he has been doing for me and my family,’’ he said.
In his characteristic style, Sunny Ade rendered a song in Yoruba with members of his band: “If not for God, I would have been gone and buried. I thank you God for my life.”

Earlier in his message, Adeboye had told the congregation that anyone who had not given his life to Christ should not rejoice and praise God because such a person was hell-bound.
“Stop treating God as a beggar because all that you have, he gave to you. Serve God this year with all your heart. Give Him quality offerings.

“Offer yourself to God first before you offer to him any other thing. If you are here but have not given your life to Jesus Christ, do so now,’’ he said.
Adeboye recalled how as a boy he had done some naughty things but God had kept him to date to preach the gospel.
“When I looked at the days I strayed and the things I did when I was in the university, but how God saved me, you will understand why we should continue to thank Jesus,’’ he said.
He, therefore, urged the worshippers to be grateful to God for his mercies.

Claudia was a 20 year old student and dancer who thought enhancing her butt would make her more attractive and get her into more music videos.

She traveled to the US to do the surgery and developed chest pains and struggled for breath for 12 hours after she had the illegal silicone injections at a budget hotel. She was taken to hospital but could not be saved.

A preliminary examination found the silicone filler had leaked into her bloodstream, leading to heart failure.

American detectives are investigating whether she was treated with cheap ‘industrial’ silicone, normally used as a sealant, rather than medical-grade material used in breast implant surgery.

It was not the first time Miss Aderotimi had had the procedure. She is believed to have been treated in November and the latest injection on Monday may have been a ‘top-up’ procedure.

Filmmaker and Record Label Resolve Conflict on DaGrin Biopic.

An undisclosed amount was given to the family at the meeting with a contract that says the family gets 20% of the proceeds from the movie while 10% will be the charity set up in the name of the Late rap artiste.

One dead, two BRT buses burnt, as LASTMA and Okada riders clash in Lagos

It happened yesterday morning @ about 10:30 am around the Mile 12 area of Lagos State. An okada rider was crushed to death by a BRT (Bus Rapid Transport) while trying to escape from being arrested by the Lagos State Transport Management Authority, (LASTMA) officials who had been pursuing him from Ojota towards mile 12 for violating a traffic law.

After discovering that the Okada rider had died in the pursuit, the LASTMA officers took to their heels and ran towards Ketu for safety.

Okada riders and and angry youths who witnessed the incident set an empty LAGBUS and a BRT ablaze.

Yeah, things like this happen in Lagos. May the Okada man RIP.

Armed Robbers Invade Funke Akindele's Omo Ghetto 2 Hotel Set

The hotel actress Funke Akindele and her family and close friends were lodged at while shooting the movie, Omo Ghetto 2 was invaded in the early hours of this morning...around 12:30 am. Funke Akindele, her brother, her younger sister, her cousin, and close friends were all attacked. The robbers collected about six hundred thousand naira from Funke and her brother and also smashed Funke's marketer's Range Rover parked at the hotel. Funke's X Terra and her mother's CRV were also smashed.

Sources say it wasn't only Funke and her crew that were attacked, every lodger at the hotel was also robbed. Fortunately no one was really hurt.

The Hotel is called Imperial Hotel on Lagos street, Ebutte Metta, Yaba.
Some other members of the Omo Ghetteo 2 cast and crew are lodged in another hotel.

MAN WITH 86 WIVES SUE INEC

The celebrated polygamist, Pa Abubakar Masaba, is heading for a showdown with the Independent National Electoral Commission and the police following allegations that members of his family, numbering over 5,000 were denied registration by suspected thugs in the just concluded voter registration exercise.


Our correspondent gathered that suspected thugs allegedly thwarted efforts by members of the Masaba’s family to participate in the voter registration exercise at a registration unit in Bida Local Government Area of the state.

Masaba is reported to have 86 wives.

It was learnt that the thugs specifically prevented INEC officials from registering the Masaba family and that security operatives allegedly refused to come to his rescue.

The lawyer to the family, Mr. Shehu Jubril, told our correspondent in Minna, Niger State, that over 10 hoodlums frustrated efforts of the Masabas to register.

He alleged that the thugs, led by one Gimba, created pandemonium in a registration unit close to Masaba’s residence as they stormed the area beating and wounding members of the family who had queued up to register.

He said the hoodlums overpowered officials of INEC and prevented them from registering Masaba’s family members.

He claimed that about nine members of the family were wounded by the attackers, lamenting that despite complaints lodged by Masaba to the police area commander, nobody was arrested in connection with the incident.

He accused the police of connivance and said Masaba had concluded plans to seek redress in court.

He said the development amounted to a breach of fundamental human rights and assault.

“The recent interview granted by the area commander in a local newspaper has however indicated that police have taken sides on the matter as he went on saying that the family has no business registering at their own Masaba ‘A’ polling unit”, he said.

When our correspondent contacted the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Richard Oguche, he said he was yet to receive the report.

He said the district police officers would brief the command on developments in their various areas on Monday (today).

Also, INEC state Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Abdulmalik Wase, claimed ignorance of the development and said he knew nothing about Masaba and his family.
